Saturday, April 18, 2015

Anadarko Petroleum Corp. is mulling over the possible sale of another stake in its prize asset in East Africa, Mozambique’s Offshore Area 1. Potential firms making the top of the buyer list – ExxonMobil and Qatar Petroleum.

In 2013 Anadarko made the first sale of a portion of its stake in the highly prolific block off the coast of Mozambique when it sold a 10% stake to ONGC for over $2.5 billion. Now the company may be open to possibly selling the remaining 26.5% stake, or just a portion of it.

Data rooms have already been opened to give potential buyers a clear picture of the US independent’s reserves in Area 1, tagged at over 75 Tcf of natural gas.

According to sources in a Reuters report, both ExxonMobil and Qatar Petroleum have paid a visit to the data rooms.
