Release

TRIPOLI – Risk mitigation company AKE has warned that further violence could take place in Tripoli following clashes at the Qubba Samawiyah roundabout near the coastal road in Souq al-Jumaa early on 5 November.

The clashes involved members of the Misratan militia as well as local militiamen from Souq al-Jumaa district itself.

At the time of writing (14:00 Tripoli local time) AKE sources on the ground reported a convoy of Misratan militia gathering in the Salah ad-Din district of the city, although it remains unclear if this is related to the earlier events.

AKE’s Libya specialist Alan Fraser stated that there is a risk of further clashes. Speaking from Tripoli he advised personnel to remain vigilant when planning their movements around the capital, particularly in the eastern districts.

“The clashes this morning were audible from around 01:00 local time until around 03:00.”

“Although there is little risk of foreigners being directly targeted in these types of clashes, there is the potential for travel disruption in areas nearby. The direct risk is largely posed against those who stray into an area in the immediate vicinity of the clashes”
