ConocoPhillips Strikes Out Offshore Angola

Wednesday, November 5, 2014

ConocoPhillips struck out when drilling on Angola’s Block 36. The company’s Kamoxi-1 well encountered no hydrocarbons on its way to a total depth of 22,660 ft. The well will be plugged and abandoned as a dry hole.

Block 36 is located offshore in Angola’s Kwanza Basin.

“Although the Kamoxi well results were disappointing, we continue to see potential for this subsalt Angola play,” said Larry Archibald, senior VP, Exploration. “After plugging Kamoxi, we will spud a well on adjacent Block 37, which will be the second wildcat in our planned four well exploration program in the Kwanza Basin.”
