Apache Corp. and Shell are the recipients of the first contracts in Egypt to extract gas by fracking. The Ministry of Petroleum said the contract includes investments of $30-$40 million.
“The project will require horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing, which is the same as the shale gas production method used in the US,” a Ministry statement said. The statement added that the deal is for the drilling of three wells in the Abu al-Ghardeeq region of the Western Desert.
