Egypt’s ISIS Branch Leaves 30 Dead

The Islamic State’s (ISIS) Egyptian, Sinai Province, claimed responsibility for attacks in Egypt’s Sinai that have left dozens dead and many in critical condition. The evening of January 29 was one of the most deadly Egypt’s Sinai region has seen in some time; four separate attacks on security forces in North Sinai left 30 dead according to reports.

According to reports most of the casualties occurred in the bombing of a military hotel and base in Al-Arish. At least five men were in critical condition and the death toll is likely to rise. Two children, one of them just six months old, died the next day from wounds suffered.

The country’s president, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, was in Ethiopia at the time of the attacks for the AU Summit. Sisi’s office said in a statement that the president would return to Cairo after this morning’s opening session.

The Sinai Province was originally the Ansar Bayt al-Magdis before pledging allegiance to ISIS in 2014.
