Gas has resumed flowing through the Arab Gas Pipeline allowing Egypt to resume its deliveries to Jordan. Deliveries to Jordan have been seriously disrupted since Egypt’s civil uprising at the outset of 2011 from attacks on the pipeline.
The Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO) said that deliveries to Jordan will gradually increase from 500 Mmcm per year to more than 1.5 Bcm per year; this is much lower than Jordan originally received at the outset of deliveries in 2009.
Due to increased domestic consumption, Egypt has cut Jordan’s supplies significantly from the 3.1 Bcm it was receiving in 2009. In 2011 Jordan only received 0.88 Bcm of gas from Egypt; however, deliveries were declining prior to the Egyptian revolution.
