French independent exploration firm Maurel et Prom has seen its shares jump on possible takeover rumors. According to a report from The Daily Mail newspaper, the firm has attracted the attention of Anadarko Petroleum Corp. and Shell.
The French firm could receive a bid of more than €19 per share, which is a little over €8 per share higher than its closing price on June 12 the paper said. Analysts say this is a bit optimistic.
The article also reported that Maurel et Prom rejected a “friendly approach” from Anadarko and Shell has expressed interest. However, in its most recently released statement regarding its AGM the company said that it had not been contacted by Shell.
