The government of Kenya is looking to construct three new berths at the second port at Lamu, toward that end it has invited firms to bid for the design and construction contract.
It also includes the construction of a railway, pipeline, highway, airport and refinery according to Gichiri Ndua, managing director of Kenya Ports Authority (KPA). The tender for bids is open to local and international firms.
The $5.3 billion port is part of a $23 billion transport corridor project that will link the port to Ethiopia and South Sudan. Besides boosting trade between other East African countries, the transport corridor project will help boost northern Kenya’s economy.
