US embassies in Egypt and Libya were attacked on the 11-year anniversary of the terrorist attacks against the US. Christopher Stevens, the US ambassador to Libya, along with three other American diplomats were killed when suspected extremists stormed the US Consulate in Benghazi on September 11.

Security concerns have been raised across North Africa and the Middle East with Libyan officials prompting an investigation to find those responsible for the killings after an angry mob attacked the diplomatic complex in a reported anti-Islamic video created and produced by an American-Israeli. Very few people had heard of the video that also resulted in angry Egyptians storming the US embassy in Cairo, burning the American flag and attempting to raise an Islamic flag.
