GDF Suez completed the drilling the first of its 24 production wells on Algeria’s Touat field. The Touat is expected to come online in 2016 at a rate of4.5 Bcm/y at plateau.
“The well was successfully drilled,” Jerome Chambin, a spokesman for the company, told Bloomberg.
Over the life of the project it is expected that 40 wells will be drilled.
GDF Suez is partnered with Sonatrach on the Touat and holds a 65% stake in the license.
The completion of GDF Suez’ first well is seen as a major development for the project as it has been delayed numerous times due to discussions on how eventual production will be transported to market.
The company also drilled a well in the eastern Sud-Illizi block in July and is evaluating its commercial viability.
