Canadian independent Talisman Energy is back in sub-Saharan Africa and is busy drilling offshore Sierra Leone. The well, located on Block SL-04B, is not far from Anadarko Petroleum’s Jupiter discovery on BlockSL-07B-11.

Speaking at Africa Oil Week in Cape Town Tony Atherton, Talisman's Head of Exploration, New Business Development, said the Djembe-1 spud on October 12, using the Stena Drillmax 6th generation drillship to drill the well. Atherton said the well is expected to be drilled to a total depth of 4,650 meters.

The company was awarded the block in June when it signed an agreement with the government to take a majority stake in SL-4B-10.
