Erin Energy to Relinquish Kenya Offshore Position

Wednesday, March 29, 2017

Erin Energy has decided not to pursue an extension for two of its blocks in Kenya. In a recently released statement the company said that it would not seek an additional extension for offshore blocks L-27 and L-28 due to the high costs and risks associated with frontier exploration.

The company said the current state of the industry also played a factor in its decision.

While it will exit blocks L-27 and L-28, Erin Energy still has plans for its acreage onshore Kenya. The company is continuing to evaluate the prospectivity of identified leads on its onshore blocks and is currently designing an additional, targeted 2D seismic acquisition on the blocks.

According to Erin, the most prospective of its Kenyan assets are its onshore blocks and it has focused the majority of its work on those.
