France’s Total Loses CEO in Russian Plane Crash

Wednesday, October 22, 2014

French super major, Total, lost its CEO as the corporate jet collided with a snow plough and was later engulfed in flames killing all four passengers.

Christophe de Margerie served as CEO for Europe’s third largest oil company since 2007. France’s president Francois Hollande said, “Christophe de Margerie dedicated his life to French industry and to building up the Total group. He made it into one of the very top global companies.”

Total will hold a board meeting to discuss Margerie’s successor and interim replacement. It has been reported that the head of the new division developing renewable energy resources, Philippe Boisseau, is a contender.
