Full Production at In Amenas Expected in 2015

Thursday, November 13, 2014

The In Amenas natural gas plant is expected to see its production to return to full capacity in early-2015 according to the country’s energy minister, Youcef Yousfi. The plant was shut in during January 2013 following an attack by militants that left 40 workers dead.

In September Statoil, one of the partners on the In Amenas, said that the plant was ready to resume normal operations and currently two of the plant’s three trains are up and running. The plants total capacity prior to the militant attack was 9 Bcm.

“The third train may restart in early 2015. All our partners have returned,” Yousfi told state radio, without offering any other details.

BP and Statoil had kept their permanent workers away from the plant, which they operate jointly with Sonatrach.
