Gas Pipeline Explosion Kills Four in Nigeria

Monday, February 27, 2017

Four people were killed in Nigeria’s Rivers state when a gas pipeline exploded. The pipeline was operated by ENI’s Nigerian unit, Nigerian Agip Oil Co. (NAOC) and NLNG.

NAOC and NLNG denied any deaths attributable to the explosion.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, though local Evekwu community leader Ndudirim Amadi told AFP it may have been due to “high pressure on the pipeline.”

“The incident has caused a lot of damage to the people of the area as farmlands and crops have been destroyed as a result of the explosion,” Amadi said.
