ISIS Takes on Troops from Both Libyan Governments

Following a familiar pattern Libyan militants claiming allegiance to ISIS have taken advantage of political and security chaos in to gain another foothold in an Arab nation, as was done in Syria and Iraq. Libya’s ISIS militants are now engaging troops from both governments in Sirte and Benghazi, according to a Libyan news agency.

ISIS militants in Sirte killed five members of a force loyal to the Tripoli government, attacking near a power station on Sirte’s western outskirts in what appeared to be a suicide bombing.

Heavy fighting between ISIS fighters and forces loyal to Libya’s internationally recognized government in Benghazi took place after ISIS claimed a suicide attack on an army post. The suicide bombing killed seven people, with two more dying when a rocket hit residential buildings. According to military officials war planes attacked suspected ISIS positions early on March 25.
