Tuesday, August 1, 2017

The peace process in Nigeria’s Niger Delta could hit a roadblock if certain conditions are not met. According to reports out of the West African country, leaders in the Niger Delta have threatened to pull out of peace talks with the government unless their demands are met by November 1.

At a news conference in Abuja, the leaders said that the government had failed to implement promises to eliminate poverty from the region, one of the demands all of the Niger Delta militant groups have insisted on.

Attacks by Niger Delta militant groups have been on hold while leaders and the government negotiate a peace deal.
