Mozambique’s National Petroleum Institute (INP) announced the closure of the country’s fifth licensing round at a meeting attended by representatives of companies applying for licenses.

Mozambique’s licensing round was launched near the end of October, giving companies interested in acreage nine months to evaluate the potential of the blocks on offer.

INP offered a total of fifteen areas within the offshore Rovuma, offshore Angoche, offshore Zambezi, onshore Pande-Temane, and onshore Palmeira areas.

Companies that submitted applications included Shoreline Canoverseas Petroleum Development partnered with Bluegreen Investments and Indico Dourado; Sasol Petroleum Mozambique Exploration; ENI, partnered with Sasol and Statoil; Troisade Energia Mozambique; ExxonMobil, partnered with RN-Exploration; Total, partnered with Sonangol; and Delonex Energy Ltd, partnered with Indian Oil Corp.

Non-operator applications received came from Namoza Natural Resources and Petroinveste Mozambique; while applications for other areas not included in the round came from ENI and Delonex Energy.

Mozambique’s state-run oil and gas firm, ENH, will have a minimum 10% interest in all licenses.

INP will now evaluate the submitted applications on defined criteria which include the HSE component, the financial strength, technical competence and capability, as well as economic terms offered to the Mozambican State. INP anticipates that it will announce the results within the next three months.
