Niger Has New Petroleum Code

Wednesday, August 9, 2017

The government of Niger, in an extraordinary session of parliament, adopted a bill for a new Petroleum Code. The new Petroleum Code replaces the 2007 Petroleum Code.

The new Petroleum Code provides for the development of local content programs in order to allow the localities to benefit from the exploitation of the country’s petroleum resources.

The document also covers concession contracts, the conditions for transparent management in the licensing of companies, its operation and marketing. The protection of the environment also occupies a prominent place in this new Code, especially with the disastrous consequences seen in recent years in the operation of the Agadem site.
