Nigerian Militants Ready to Talk

The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), one of Nigeria’s more recent militants to wreak havoc in the oil regions of the country, said in statement released on August 29 that they have ceased operations in the Niger Delta and are ready to open negotiations with the government.

The NDA, in its statement said it has called on Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari to listen to the concerns of the people living in the Niger Delta.

“We have listened carefully and halted hostilities in the Niger Delta; we expect a genuine and positive attitude to restructuring and self-determination for every component unit of Nigeria,” the statement from NDA said.

Buhari, while in Kenya for the 6th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD VI), said that the government was open to discussions focused on resolving the issue of militancy in the Niger Delta.
