Ophir Names Midstream Partner for Equa G FLNG Project

Friday, November 7, 2014

Ophir Energy has appointed Excelerate Energy as its lead midstream partner for its floating liquefaction and storage facilities in Equatorial Guinea at its Block R FLNG project, according to company CEO Dr. Nick Cooper speaking at Africa Oil Week in Cape Town Thursday. Excelerate has been appointed as the lead in a consortium of technology providers that will include Samsung Heavy Industries and Black & Veatch.

Cooper said negotiations regarding a detailed MoU have concluded and were signed between the Ministry of Mines, Industry and Energy, GEPetrol, Ophir, and Excelerate. This MoU will fully align the parties ahead of a full midstream FEED contract later in the year.

Appointing the consortium completes a key step before FEED and follows the recent announcements of the successful Fortuna-2 Well drill stem test and the agreement with the Ministry on the improved Block R gas fiscal terms. The upstream and midstream FEED contracts will commence in early 2015 and late-2014, respectively. FID is expected in early 2016 Cooper said, adding first gas was expected in 2019.

Cooper, CEO, also expressed his delight in how negotiations with the Ministry have moved along and touted their support in bringing the continent’s first FLNG project closer to fruition. The project will be brought onstream in three phases with initial volumes expected to be in the 440 Mmscf/d range. “We didn’t intend on becoming FLNG masters, but necessity is the mother of invention,” Cooper concluded.
