Protesters Invade Flowstation in Nigeria

Sunday, August 13, 2017

Shell’s Belema flowstation in Nigeria’s River state was inundated with protesters demanding jobs and infrastructure development. The Belema flowstation feeds Shell’s Bonny export terminal.

Shell said it evacuated staff late on August 10 and shut the facility when it became clear the protesters were on their way there. The protesters said that they planned to stay at the facility for two weeks.

Shell said its “commitment to the welfare of host communities in the Niger Delta remains unshaken” and was working with authorities to resume operations at the facility.
