Rovuma Onshore Partners Encounter Problems

Monday, August 25, 2014

The Anadarko Petroleum-led partnership in Mozambique on the Rovuma Onshore Concession have experienced some problems in the drilling of the Tembo-1 well. Reports have the partners encountering start-up and equipment challenges, resulting in a delay in drilling.

The Tembo-1 well was spud on June 19 targeting mid-Cretaceous sands with secondary targets in the upper Jurassic. Tembo-1 has a planned total depth of 4,250 meters TVD and is expected to take 60-90 days to complete.

To date there have been two wells drilled in the Rovuma Onshore Concession including the Mocimboa-1 well, which encountered oil and natural gas shows in the Cretaceous. The Mocimboa-1 was 17 km northeast from the Tembo-1.

Wentworth Resources, Anadarko’s partner on the Rovuma Onshore Concession, said that when drilling is completed on the Tembo-1,  the partners plan to mobilize the drilling rig to the second well, Kifaru-1, located in the northern section of the Onshore Rovuma Block.

Wentworth also commented on its nearby operations in Tanzania saying that the acquisition of 315 km of conventional 2D onshore seismic data over the prospective areas of the Mnazi Bay Concession is expected to be completed in Q3. Processing and interpretation of this new seismic data is expected to support future appraisal, development and exploration drilling which is anticipated to commence in 2015.
