Rwanda Ready for More Exploration

Thursday, October 20, 2016

Rwanda has picked up the exploration gauntlet once again, resuming its search for resources in Lake Kivu. The government has hired competent companies, and local and foreign experts, to do the job, according to Natural Resources Minister Vincent Biruta in a KT Press report.

Exploration in Rwanda’s Lake Kivu area was undertaken by Vanoil previously, but the firm and the government became locked in a dispute over extending Vanoil’s time on the acreage.

Biruta said Rwanda is not about to give up. “We are not sure when we will get results but the reason why we have insisted on resuming the search is because we have some signs that petroleum deposits exist in the country,” he said.
