South Africa oil and gas exploration firm SacOil Holdings has joined forces with the governments of South Africa and Mozambique to study the possibility to construct a $6-billion gas pipeline between the two countries.
The company signed a joint development agreement with IGEPE and PIC on December 3. Under the JDA the three firms will evaluate the technical and commercial feasibility of a transnational terrestrial gas pipeline and distribution facility that will carry natural gas from Mozambique’s Rovuma fields into South Africa, with off-takes to other neighboring countries.
“The indicative gas requirements of, as well as benefits to, Mozambique and South Africa appear to justify such a pipeline,” SacOil said in a statement. SacOil, Mozambique’s state-owned firm IGEPE and South African government-owned pension fund Public Investment Corp.
