Wednesday, April 9, 2014

SapuraKencana Petroleum Berhad’s drilling division, SapuraKencana Drilling, won a new contract and three contract extensions worth a total of $454 million from new and existing clients in West Africa, Brunei, and Thailand.

The company’s new contract is with Total Congo for the charter of its semi-tender assist drilling rig SKD Berani. The contract is for one year, with an option for a one-year extension. Total Congo contracted SKD Berani for its work over and development drilling campaign offshore Congo. This contract commences in April 2014 and lasts until March 2015.

In Angola SapuraKencana Drilling accepted a $164 million two-year contract extension from Chevron for the provision of its tender assist drilling rig the SKD Setia. Chevron will use the rig for its development drilling campaign offshore Cabinda. The contract extension is for a period of two years commencing in August 2014 and lasting until July 2016.

“The new contract win from Total Congo and the contract extension from Chevron Angola further strengthens the Group’s geographical diversity in its operations and solidifies our West African presence – a key growth area for us,” said SapuraKencana president and Group CEO, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Shahril Shamsuddin.

In Thailand SapuraKencana saw its contract with Chevron extended for two years and in Brunei it accepted a contract with Shell for two years commencing in April 2015.

“This latest round of new business adds $454 million to the Group’s order book. It also cements SapuraKencana Drilling’s position as the predominant global tender assist drilling contractor, trusted by leading oil and gas majors,” added Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Shahril. “We are thankful for the confidence placed in our drilling division by these blue chip clients across the globe.”
