Senegal Plans Two License Awards

Friday, October 17, 2014

Senegal plans to award two exploration licenses prior to the end of the year according to state-run oil and gas firm Petrosen.

“We already have proposals. We are evaluating the best for the state of Senegal,” said Petrosen’s Director General Mamadou Faye of the two new northern offshore blocks.

Faye did not reveal the names of the firms who would be awarded that acreage but he did reveal that the state-run firm was looking for funds to explore a third block on itself.

Soco International reported that its Soco EPC, operator of the Marine XI Block offshore the Republic of Congo (ROC) has completed the drilling of the Lidongo X Marine 101 well (LXM-101). The well encountered oil in a clastics sequence in the Djeno sand formation and early log interpretation indicates approximately a 50 meter gross interval.

The well was drilled to a total depth of 2,665 meters after penetrating the target hydrocarbon zone.  Analysis of the logs over the hydrocarbon zone indicates petrophysical parameters in line with those published for the Litchendjili field on the adjacent Marine XII Block operated by ENI.

Due to the tight nature of the reservoir sands a 20 meter section has been selected for testing. The zone will be tested after a 7” liner is set and cemented. Testing, including utilizing a stimulation frac, is expected to take approx. three weeks. After the completion of testing there will be a further release with results.
