Simba Plans Kenya Seismic Adventure

Monday, December 8, 2014

The acquisition of 300 to 400 km of 2D seismic is expected to launch in Kenya during H1 2015. The seismic program is for Simba Energy’s Block 2A and will target two of the five prospects Simba identified from its high resolution Gravity Gradiometry completed in August. The prospects are located in the Mandera and Anza basins.

Simba hopes to further delineate drilling locations as well as confirm the depth and volume of estimates for the identified primary as well as secondary targets. There were five targets indentified in the Anza Basin with A1 being designated the primary target, with an area extent of 44 sq km showing a similar fault zone to Tullow Oil’s Ngamia discovery (in the Lokichar Basin).

In the A4/A5 prospect, an area of 55 sq km was identified by the FTG survey and it contains a fault zone similar to the fault zone found in the Ngamia discovery made by Tullow Oil. At the A2/A3 prospect Simba is looking at an area extent of 53 sq km. The 2D seismic is expected to confirm the prospect status at A1 with potential drilling locations in A1 and A4/A5.

The 2D seismic is expected to confirm the prospect status at A1 with potential drilling locations in A1 and A4/A5.

In the Mandera Basin where the company estimates the existence of over one billion barrels potential, a 265-km 2D seismic is also planned on the M1 and M3 prospects where a four way closure was clearly correlated by the earlier 2D seismic, passive seismic, and FTG.
