Soma Oil & Gas’ executive director for Africa, Hassan Khaire, has resigned from the board so that he can serve as the Prime Minister of Somalia. Khaire has also relinquished all his shares in the company.
Khaire has worked with the company since its inception in 2013 and prior to that worked as the Director for the Norwegian Refugee Council for Somalia and East Africa.
Lord Michael Howard of Lympne, chairman of Soma, said “Although we will miss Hassan’s wise and knowledgeable participation on the Board, we are delighted that his dedication to Somalia and his contribution to the recovery of his country is being recognized. We wish him great success in his role as Prime Minister of Somalia.”
Richard Anderson, chief executive of Soma, said “I congratulate Hassan on his appointment as the Prime Minister of Somalia. His outstanding character and sense of duty makes him eminently suitable for this important position.”
