South Sudan Says Unity Oil Flows Blocked

Thursday, May 23, 2013

Just when something positive was reported out of the two Sudans, like an agreement reached and oil flowing north again, new reports have the two in the midst of another spat. According to media reports out of South Sudan, Juba is accusing Sudan of blocking oil flow from its Unity state’s fields.

South Sudan has not been able to ramp its production at the Thar Jath oil field up to 90,000 bpd because Sudanese authorities closed a network of pipelines to oil-processing facilities in Heglig. The closing of the pipelines is seen as a major setback for the two countries in their quest to bring Juba’s 350,000 bpd back online.

“The pipelines to Heglig were closed late last week. We have tried to inquire from Sudan, but they are not telling us anything,” a South Sudanese official at the oil ministry, who declined to be named, told Dow Jones Newswires.
