U.S.-Angola Chamber of Commerce Elects New Board Members

WASHINGTON, DC, JANUARY 27, 2015 – The U.S.-Angola Chamber of Commerce (USACC) held its 2015 Annual Membership and Board Meeting where a new Board of Directors was elected.  Newly elected members of the Board of Directors for a term of one-year include: Banco PrivadoAtlantico (BPA), The Dow Company, GE, LCF &Associados, PetroAfrica and Standard Bank.  Returning Board Members for a one-year term include:  Miranda Law Firm, Operatec, and the U.S.-Africa Energy Association (USAEA).  Their respective one-year term will expire in January 2016.

Board Members reappointed for a three-year term include: Banco Angolano de Investimentos (BAI), Banco Fomento Angola (BFA), BP, Chevron, ExxonMobil, and Goodworks International.  Their term expires in January 2018.

The new Board reconfirmed Chevron as Chairman; in addition BP was elected Vice Chair, ExxonMobil as Secretary and Banco Angolano de Investimentos (BAI) as Treasurer.

Board Chair, MamadouBeye, representing Chevron, said “we are appreciative of the vote of confidence from fellow Board members in selecting us(Chevron) to be at the helm of USACC and look forward to working with the Board in achieving even greater engagement with Angola in 2015”.

In her welcoming remarks at the luncheon, President of USACC, Jeannine B. Scott noted USACC will be celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.  She also stated “USACC is encouraged by the appointment of His Excellency Agostinho Tavares da Silva Neto, new Angolan Ambassador to the U.S.  His vast international experience and desire to promote and foster a stronger bilateral relationship between Angola and the United States encourages the business community, in addition to all friends of Angola residing here.  We look forward to working closely with him during his tenure.”

In his keynote address, Ambassador Neto discussed the government of Angola’s plans for diversification of its economy and promised streamline procedures for businesspeople requesting a visa to Angola.

“We will be going to Angola in March with the Trade Mission and hope members of the US government and companies interested in seeking new opportunities that Angola has to offer will join me on this mission”, said Ambassador Neto.

Ambassador Neto also applauded USACC’s efforts in promoting positive Angola – U.S. relations and encouraged members of the US government present at the lunch, notably Ambassador Bisa Williams, US Deputy Assistant Secretary for African Affairs, and representatives from OPIC and ExIm Bank, to join him on the trade mission to Angola in March.

The meeting also covered USACC’s accomplishments for 2014 and the board approved USACC’s budget and events for 2015 to include a Direct Trade Mission to Angola, March 20 -27, 2015.
