Wildcat Successful for NOC and ENI

Good news out of Libya among the chaos and recent force majeure declaration as the National Oil Corporation (NOC) and ENI North Africa Libya (Operator), partners in an EPSA contract for area D (NC41), have announced a new gas discovery in Contract Area D (NC41) in the Sabratah Basin, offshore Libya.

The discovery came from the new field wildcat well B1-16/04, located approximately 82 km from the Libyan coast and 15 km southwest of the Bahr Essalam Field. The well was drilled at an average water depth of about 150 meters.

The well flowed 257 bpd on a 64/32” choke of 47° API gravity oil and condensate, and 17 mmcf/d of natural gas. On a 64/64” choke the well flowed at 621 bpd and 29 mmcf/d of natural gas.

NOC and ENI have been partnered in Area D since signing the contract in June 2008.

Meanwhile, Libya has declared force majeure on 11 of its oilfields a statement on the Arabic version of its website said. Some of the assets included in the force majeure are located in Mabrouk and Bahi. Petroleum Africa reported yesterday that militants had taken over the Bahi oil field and bombed the oil ports at Ras Lanuf and Es Sidra.
