Ahead of the North Africa Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (NAPEC), Alnaft’s president, Sid Al Betata, said Algeria was still waiting for the crude market to turnaround before it launched its next licensing round. Alnaft is Algeria’s energy regulatory agency.
Betata said that Algeria’s hydrocarbon sector was under exploited and the country was planning to intensify efforts in this direction. Apart from the as yet unexplored areas, the reserves earmarked for development need to kickstart operations. He also stated that the reserves that are under development are not being explored to their full potential.
The Alnaft president stressed on the importance of partnerships in the efforts of the Algerian government. NAPEC, according to Betata, will be an excellent opportunity to gauge the interest of industry players. “NAPEC offers an excellent platform to engage in dialogue and exchange information with all major players in the oil industry,” he said.
NAPEC takes place in the Algerian city of Oran March 21 to 24.
