Aminex and Groundstar Reach TD in Egypt, Encounter Oil/Gas Shows

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Aminex and Groundstar Resources Ltd. have reached total depth on the South Malak #1 well on Egypt’s West Esh El Mellaha block onshore the Gulf of Suez. Earlier in the month Aminex said that drilling would be extended deeper. The original target depth was 9,000 ft however the well was drilled to 11,200 ft as a result of thicker than expected Miocene Rudeis and Nukhul sections being encountered.

During drilling oil shows were encountered in Pre-Miocene Matulla sand stringers from 10,858 ft to 10,900 ft and high C1 to C4 gas readings were encountered from 10,300 ft through to total depth. The well was logged from the base of the last cased section at 2,725 ft to total depth.

The hydrocarbon shows plus log analysis of the logs support a testing program of four potential zones, Aminex reports.

Groundstar said that the well will be cased to 11,030 ft leaving the bottom 170 ft uncased in order to conduct an open hole test of possible fractured Granite Wash and Basalt. The remaining proposed tests will be conducted over the cased portion of the well.

Aminex says that the casing and cementing program will be completed in 7-8 days after which the testing program will commence. Aminex has a 10% carried interest in South Malak-1 through its shareholding in Aminex Petroleum Egypt Ltd. while Groundstar has a 20% net working interest in the West Esh El Mellaha block.
