Anadarko and Mozambique Sign Agreements for LNG Project

Tuesday, August 1, 2017

Anadarko Petroleum Corp. finalized two agreements with the government of Mozambique, together known as the marine concessions, which would allow it to design, build and operate marine facilities for its LNG project in northern Mozambique.

This follows the publication of the Mozambican government decrees approving those agreements.

“This is a key milestone on the path to a final investment decision (FID) for our initial two-train LNG project,” said Mitch Ingram, Anadarko executive VP, Global LNG. “We will now look forward to our plans to start resettlement, which will allow for the construction of the LNG plant. In addition, we continue to make good progress with our efforts to secure LNG sales and purchase agreements with premium buyers.”  Ingram also said that the company had intensified its work to provide the necessary funding for the project and its expects to take the FID when the SPAs and funding are in place.

Anadarko is developing Mozambique’s first onshore LNG plant consisting of two initial LNG trains with a total capacity of 12 mpta, with feedstock for the two trains coming from its Golfinho/Atum field located entirely within Offshore Area 1.

The onshore LNG plant is not the only LNG project in motion to commercialize Mozambique’s massive natural gas resources. ENI is moving forward with the development of its Coral South project, which calls for the use of a FLNG vessel. Over the past several months ENI has issued a number of contracts to advance the Coral South FLNG project.
