Baker Oil Tools to the Rescue

Wednesday, August 1, 2007

In Egypt, Baker Oil Tools (BOT) used its trademark Vectored Annulus Cleaning System, or VACS, to solve a drilling problem. The company was called to the rescue of a customer in Egypt after a competitor could not successfully set its 9-5/8" hydraulic casing exit system.

According to BOT, a standard clean up and gage operation had been conducted prior to the deployment of the first casing exit system, but this had been unsuccessful and debris was still present in the long, highly-deviated section of the well. BOT delivered specific wellbore clean up procedures and equipment to remove as much debris from the well as possible. This allowed a casing exit system to be successfully set and the exit milled. BOT’s VACS™  was used as the primary method to remove debris.

BOT said that after one VACS tool run was completed, a gauge run was conducted prior to the installation of a bridge plug. BOT then ran a bottom trip mechanical whipstock and successfully set it at 15,940 feet in a hole deviation of 76°. Total milling time for the casing exit was 16 hours and a total of 45 feet were milled.
