Bonga to Receive a Tune-up

Friday, January 25, 2008

Offhsore Nigeria, the Bonga field operated by Shell Nigeria, will be shut down next month. According to a Reuters report, traders in Nigeria said that the field is set to undergo maintenance in March.

Shell says the field pumps about 250,000 bpd, a welcome addition to Nigerian production totals; however, traders said that Shell has only scheduled three loadings for March of just under one million barrels each to allow for maintenance operations.

The Bonga was the first major deepwater project for Shell Nigeria and is estimated to contain recoverable reserves of up to 600 million barrels. Production began in November 2005 and the first commercial shipment of crude oil took place in December 2005.
