Good news for Senegal came out in Cairn Energy’s recently released half-yearly report; the company has increased its 2C resource estimate at the SNE asset offshore the West African country. Cairn said the resources have risen from 385 million barrels to 473 million.
The uptick in the SNE contingent resources puts estimated gross recoverable oil resource of 1C to 274 million barrels, its 2C to 473 million barrels, and its 3C 906 million barrels.
Over the last two years, six wells have been drilled within the SNE field. Two of these were basin-opening discoveries, with the remaining four being successful appraisal wells.
“Drilling is scheduled to re-commence in Senegal shortly, benefiting from lower costs across the sector. The program contains options for multiple wells and in addition to ongoing appraisal of the SNE field, the joint venture continues to assess optimal locations for further exploration drilling on the acreage,” Cairn Energy CEO Simon Thomson said.
