Dockwise Assigns the Mighty Servant3 Recovery to SMIT

Thursday, January 25, 2007

Dockwise has contracted SMIT Salvage to recover the semisub vessel Mighty Servant 3 which sunk off Angola’s Coast on December 6. Smit was chosen not only because of its competency, but also because it already holds equipment near the North Angolan coast where the vessel is lying at the bottom of the sea in approximately 53 m of water.

Over the last weeks SMIT Salvage was investigating the situation and carried out the removal of the vessel’s bunker oil and pollutants on board. The salvage operation, which will take place anytime now, will last six to seven weeks. The Mighty Servant 3 will be recovered with the aid of the sheerlegs crane barge Taklift 7 and by pressurizing the various compartments with compressed air. Once the vessel is lifted, the cause of the incident will be further investigated. Dockwise intends to repair the vessel and have it back in operation in the Q1 08.
