EG LNG to Receive Gas from Zafiro Field
Monday, February 26, 2007
According to Steve Ollerearnshaw, managing director of Equatorial Guinea LNG (EG LNG), the company is considering using gas from the Zafiro oil field, operated by ExxonMobil Corp., for its liquefaction plant. Zafiro, which produces more than 270,000 bpd, is the biggest oil field in Equatorial Guinea.
Currently 150 MMcf of gas per day from the Zafiro field is flared. EG LNG is in discussions with ExxonMobil on the feasibility of using this gas for its proposed 4.4 million tones per annum (Mtpa) second LNG train. EG LNG shareholders are expected to make a final investment decision for the inclusion of the second train by late 2007 or early 2008. "We believe there is a very sound economic basis for Train 2 at EG LNG." Ollerearnshaw said.
Ollerearnshaw revealed also that discussions are underway between Nigeria, Cameroon, and Equatorial Guinea for the provision of gas to EG LNG. The company’s first LNG production from its initial 3.4 Mtpa train is due online this summer. Gas for the plant will be provided from the Alba field.
