Energem Resources Commissions Storage Facility in Nigeria

Thursday, October 26, 2006

Energem Resources Inc announced that it has successfully commissioned and tested its refined product storage and distribution facility in Lagos. The company has a 50% stake in the storage and distribution facility. The company also was successful in the discharge of its first two post commissioning 30,000 ton vessels.

The commissioning of the storage facilities and its discharge capacity establishes the facility as one of the few in Nigeria that can receive large vessels directly to port storage without the use of intermediate trans-shipment or lengthy waiting for berths.

After the first commissioning vessel in July, the plant received a further four vessels inclusive of the latest two 30,000 ton vessels. A combined total of 63,000 metric tons of premium motor fuel and 67,000 metric tons of diesel have been received. Energem expects to achieve its target throughput of 150,000 metric tons average per month by the end of the year.

The facility is designed and built in accordance with International Engineering Standard API-650 and has a storage capacity of 66,000 metric tons of refined fuel products with throughput capability of 175,000 metric tons per month. The facility will also be able to store and handle multiple types of refined fuel products simultaneously.

In commenting on the receipt of this first large vessel, Energem’s Vice President – Petroleum, Wayne Osborne, said “The recent discharge of the first large vessel represents a major achievement for the Company in proving that the facility can offer a major cost saving to its customers by allowing them to avoid the additional charges they are currently incurring by leaving large vessels offshore awaiting suitable berthing or lightering. The plant is operating to expectation through the dedication and hard work of the staff and contractors.”
