Tuesday, March 14, 2006

Nigeria’s offshore oilfield, the Erha is expected to come on stream next week. The field is expected to begin production at a rate of 50,000 bpd and is predicted to hit 180,000 bpd by third quarter 2006, with facilities to handle an output of 225,000 bpd. The field is operated by US super major ExxonMobil.

Production from the field is expected to aid ExxonMobil in realizing its goal of producing one million barrels per day in Nigeria by 2010; currently the company’s output sits at 700,000 bpd.

Exxon is also expecting additional output from its gas reinjection project called East Area Project, which is due to pump an extra 80,000 bpd starting later this year.
