Ethiopian Police Make Corruption Sweep

The police in Ethiopia have been busy rounding up high level officials and  business under suspicion of corruption. In total one government minister and 11 other people were arrested.

According to Transparency International Ethiopia is ranked 113 out of 176 nations worldwide in its 2012 perception of corruption index report.

According to reports Melaku Fenta, a senior ruling party member and director general of the revenue and customs authority with the rank of minister, was arrested on May 10 alongside two other officials from the authority. Ethiopia’s state news agency reported 12 arrests were made overall and a Reuters report said that the arrests included prominent businessman and customs employees.
