A ‘significant’ discovery was made offshore Nigeria on the Owowo field with the drilling of the Owowo-3 well. The discovery has the potential to contain recoverable resources of between 500 million and 1 billion barrels according to field operator ExxonMobil.
The Owowo-3 was spud on September 23 and encountered an estimated 460 ft of oil-bearing sandstone reservoir. The well proved additional resources in deeper reservoirs. The Owowo-3 well also extends the resources discovered with the drilling of the Owowo-2, which encountered about 515 ft of oil-bearing sandstone reservoir. The Owowo field spans portions of both OPL 223 and OML 139.
ExxonMobil is operator for OPL 223 and OML 139 and its partnered with Chevron, Total, Nexen, and NPDC.
