ExxonMobil Spuds Offshore Liberia

ExxonMobil and Canadian Overseas Petroleum Ltd. saw the spud of their first well offshore Liberia, the Mesurado-1 well. The partners commenced drilling operations on November 22 utilizing the Seadrill West Saturn drillship.

The Mesurado-1 well is located on Liberia’s Block LB-13 in approximately 2,500 meters of water. The well is targeting oil in the Late Cretaceous sands.

The well has been on the drawing board for a number of years, but was delayed due to the outbreak of Ebola in West Africa.
