Talk of US supermajor ExxonMobil picking up a stake in the prolific blocks offshore Mozambique is making the rounds again. Rumors of the company considering buying a stake in ENI’s Offshore Area 4 popped up in March of this year.
Reports now have ExxonMobil considering buying stakes in the discoveries made by both Anadarko Petroleum and ENI. Anadarko is operator of Offshore Area 1 and will be developing natural gas reserves discovered as part of a unitized development with ENI.
While there is a host of speculation on the Mozambican buy, ExxonMobil declined to comment.
Any buy would add to ExxonMobil’s acreage in the country as it won access to three exploration licenses in October. The blocks are to the south of the Anadarko and ENI blocks.
