According to a statement by Algerian state oil firm Sonatrach, a fire broke out on October 21, at around 8:20 p.m. at the furnace of the second train of the El Merk field treatment center operated by the Berkine Group.
This fire was dealt with quickly by the site response teams who secured the area before extinguishing the furnace fire using the site response resources.
As part of the mutual assistance protocol, joint intervention teams from HBNS and Ourhoud were dispatched to strengthen those of El Merk, which made it possible to control the situation and put out the fire while proceeding. cooling the furnace and adjacent installations in order to avoid any risk of re-fire
The mobilization and responsiveness of the operational and fire-fighting teams made it possible to control this incident. No injuries were sustained nor was there any harm to the surrounding environment.
The CEO of Sonatrach, Toufik Hekkar later visited the facility in the company of a delegation of senior executives, to inspect and inquire about the damage caused to the oven of train 2.
