Liberia’s new president is George Weah, the former football star. Weah won the office in a run-off election and will take office next month marking Liberia’s first democratic transition in over 70 years.
Weah led with 61.5% with over 90% of the votes counted to Vice President Joseph Boakai’s 38.5%, National Elections Commission Chairman Jerome Korkoyah told reporters.
While Liberia’s citizens seem happy with the results of the election, Weah’s critics say he has offered few concrete policy proposals.
