Force Majeure Declared on Forcados Exports

Wednesday, March 26, 2014

Shell has had to declare a force majeure on exports of the Forcados oil grade due to a pipeline leak caused by oil theft in Nigeria’s Niger Delta. According to a Shell statement unknown persons “installed a crude theft point” on the pipeline in a water depth of about eight meters.

In a statement the company said that a “slight sheen” was visible near the line in the water. Shell said earlier this month that it had suspended third-party exports of the Forcados grade.

No timeframe was given for repairs, but did say that it was looking to reopen the export line as soon as possible.
