Grinaker-LTA M&E has been awarded the project for the mechanical and piping construction by Linde Process Plants SA for Sasol Chemical Industries. The contract is fro the 1-Octene Train 3 Project. The contract was awarded in June 2006, piping pre-fabrication commenced in mid-July, and mechanical completion is scheduled for May next year.
Grinaker-LTA will be providing the installation of approximately 3,400 tons of mechanical equipment totaling approximately 275 free issue items, 600 tons of internals, and the fabrication and installation of 2,400 tons of high integrity petrochemical piping.
The contract also includes the fabrication and erection of one of the tallest columns in the Southern Hemisphere at a total height of 123 meters.
This new project is on the same footprint and has a similar time frame as the 1-Octene, Train 2 Project which was successfully completed by Grinaker-LTA M&E in 2004. However, the latest project is almost double the size of the previous one.
Grinaker-LTA M&E has an established reference within the petrochemical sector, particularly with respect to safety statistics. “The fact that we have been awarded this contract demonstrates the confidence which a world-class organization such as Linde has in our performance, safety standards and quality workmanship,” Ronnie Kesson, proposals director at Grinaker-LTA M&E, said.
Misa, a Grinaker-LTA M&E subsidiary, has been awarded the scaffolding sub-contract for this project by Linde.
